Mahindra Signs Landmark Tourism Deal for Murud

Murud, the quiet coastal town in Raigad district known for its beaches and the historic Murud-Janjira fort, is at the centre of one of Maharashtra's most ambitious tourism initiatives. Mahindra Lifespace Developers Limited, through its wholly owned subsidiary Deep Mangal Developers Private Limited, signed an agreement with the Government of Maharashtra for the development of a world-class tourist destination in Murud, district Raigad.

The scale of the project sets it apart from typical coastal developments. The plan envisions a roughly 1,300-acre eco-friendly tourist destination that will promote health and wellness, adventure, and culture and heritage tourism, positioned as the largest medical and wellness tourism investment in the state. The site sits in the Konkan region, an area prized for its unspoiled coastline and proximity to Alibaug and Mumbai.

Government backing gives the project real institutional weight. The state government partnered with Mahindra Lifespaces to develop the coastal town of Murud as a destination for medical tourism and wellness. The project will be developed under the Maharashtra Tourism Policy and will attract Rs 500 crore investment and generate 6,000 employment opportunities, as the chief minister's office had stated.

Senior leadership from both sides framed the deal as a milestone for the region. Devendra Fadnavis, then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, said tourism has the potential to significantly improve the lives of local communities, contribute to economic growth and attract investments, adding he was happy Mahindra Lifespace was taking the initiative to create a world-class destination in a region of unmatched natural beauty. Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, said the group always strives to drive positive change through its businesses, and that this initiative would help put Murud firmly on the global tourism map.

The vision for the site goes well beyond hotels and resorts. Master planning work for the project, undertaken by urban design firm StudioPOD, describes a mix of active and passive programs such as a Tourist Plaza, Nature Trails and Ravine walks, a Wellness and Ayurveda Resort, an Eco-adventure Zone, Eco-huts and a Village Gurukul, aiming to create a global destination while protecting the natural assets on site. In addition to driving tourism, the project envisions engaging local communities through education, skill development of youth and economic empowerment of women.

This Murud initiative also fits into a broader pattern of coastal Konkan investment by the Mahindra Group. Separately, Mahindra Holidays & Resorts has been expanding its footprint along the same stretch of coast — signing a new Club Mahindra resort in Dapoli, near Murud Beach, as part of the company's FY26–FY30 roadmap targeting over 10,000 keys under the Club Mahindra brand. This move strengthens the company's presence in high-growth coastal markets with strong drive-to demand and marks the first of several planned developments along India's western coast. While a separate business vertical, it signals sustained group-wide confidence in Konkan tourism.
