Mahindra Commits Rs 1,000 Crore to Tamil Nadu Growth Story

Mahindra World City Developers Limited (MWCDL) has formalised a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Tamil Nadu, committing to investments that will reshape the state's industrial map over the next half-decade. Mahindra World City Developers Limited (MWCDL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu to enable and facilitate investments in excess of INR 1000 Crore over the next five years. The agreement was signed on January 10, 2024, and is expected to generate employment for more than 2000 people in the state of Tamil Nadu.

At the heart of this commitment is the launch of Origins by Mahindra – Phase II at Eliambedu village in Chennai, which will be the platform for this investment. The move builds on an already established track record: the company has already marked its presence in the district with the successful first phase, which spans 307 acres, and has become a preferred industrial hub for renowned Japanese and Taiwanese enterprises. Marquee occupants at the existing cluster include names such as Yanmar Engine Manufacturing India, Nissei Electric India, USUI Susira International, Mitsubishi Electric, Omron Healthcare, Track Designs India, INTJR Precision Technology, Autogrip Machinery India, Masano Seiki, and Ashirvad Pipes.

What makes Origins by Mahindra stand out is its location and infrastructure readiness. The park is situated on National Highway 16 (NH-16), which connects Chennai to Kolkata and forms an essential part of the Golden Quadrilateral network, placing it within the influence zone of the Chennai-Bangalore and Chennai-Vizag Industrial Corridors near Ponneri. Occupiers benefit from proximity to three major ports, Chennai, Ennore, and Kattupalli, along with convenient connectivity to Chennai city's CBD, making it a logistics-friendly address for manufacturing and export-oriented businesses. The cluster is also the first industrial cluster in Tamil Nadu to be awarded the prestigious IGBC Green Cities' 'Platinum' rating, underscoring a commitment to sustainable and environmentally conscious industrial development.
